If you are happy with your current job then that is great, because, let’s face it, it takes up a large part of your life – but how many people can truly say they are. I have spoken with people who have been in their current employment for over 10 years and when you say to them ‘You must like it then’, you often get the reply on the lines of ‘Well it’s a job.’ That is sad!
What makes somebody happy with a job? Survey after survey shows that the number 1 factor is not, as many people might think, the financial reward. The number 1 factor is recognition.
If companies would take that on board how much easier would it be to have a happy workforce? A happy workforce benefits everyone. The workforce is more motivated because they feel appreciated and part of the team. All it takes sometimes is a simple ‘Thank you’ and acknowledgement of a job well done. It is so easy to do and has such a positive impact.
One of the best things I ever did with the staff from my fashion shops was to take them all for a day to a health and beauty spa. One of the best things I did for my customers was to send them a birthday card and an invitation to pop into the shop to collect a bottle of wine. Simple things, but they both produced massive results.
This is one of the reasons I love being a Utility Warehouse Distributor. I started that business very much as a second income and I remember being absolutely delighted when, after a few months very part time, I received a letter from the company congratulating me on my progress and awarding me some share options. Do you think that made me feel appreciated and motivated me to go on to do even better? Of course it did.
So are you happy with your current job or are you there because it is comfortable and what you are used to and ‘well it’s a job.’ Is that enough to spend your whole working life with that feeling?
Is there a better way? Well what about starting something alongside the job you are currently doing to earn a second income. You might just find it is something that could lead you to change a few things in your life. Do you dare to change?
