I was watching TV the other night when this advert came on advertising WUAKI TV and their whole message was ‘Do You Dare to Change’.
I didn’t know whether to be flattered or annoyed that their theme was that of my website!
I decided that it was good that someone else was suggesting that sometimes it is good to change. The illustration they use is that of Dick Fosbury the Olympic high jumper. When everyone else was jumping forwards, Dick Fosbury dared to jump backwards and now almost every high jumper does it. If no one ever dares to change anything, everything stays the same and no progress is made.
Previously all high jump had been performed with the straddle or scissor approach. Dick Fosbury believed there was a better way. He worked hard at developing this new style and, as often happens with change, he had to deal with criticism, scepticism, suspicion, mockery and disbelief. As we all know, this is now the accepted way of high jump. Because he dared to change, because he had a belief that there could be a more successful way, he ignored the critics. He answered them by winning the gold medal at the 1968 Olympics. What better way to silence the doubters!
Are you the kind of person that likes to ‘think outside the box’. Are you the kind of person who acknowledges that tried and tested systems can be good but that sometimes there may just be another way? Are you the kind of person who could have a belief so strong that you would be prepared to put up with mockery and criticism? Network Marketing is often viewed with suspicion by some people in the conventional corporate world so anyone who becomes involved with the industry of NWM has to be prepared to deal with some cynicism.
Maybe the changes we make in our lives won’t be as revolutionary in that it results in others making the same change. I’m pretty sure we won’t have any change named after us as Dick Fosbury had the Fosbury Flop and maybe we won’t win an Olympic gold medal , but you just never know what some change in your life could lead to – but first you have to take that initial first step.
Do YOU dare to change?
