The fine line between success and failure was graphically illustrated in the match between Manchester City and Manchester United played this weekend.

With only a few minutes to go the sports journalists were shown preparing the headlines as they thought is was all over for Manchester City. ‘Chokers’ was one headline being prepared. If Manchester City had lost that match there wouldn’t have been a good word to be said about Mancini and his players. The results they had attained all season leading up to this match would have counted for nothing. All the hard work and training would be discounted. They would have been regarded as failures.

Minutes later, how it had all changed. Two goals later, how it had all changed. The sports journalists had to re write their headlines. Mancini was a hero, his players were heroes. Is it fair that this should be the case? Well yes, I think it is.

There is this very British attitude of ‘it’s taking part that counts’ . You try telling that to the losing finalist at Wimbledon, try telling it to the trainer whose horse has lost by a nose at the Derby, try telling that to the athlete who won a silver medal instead of the coveted gold medal at the Olympics. Look at the difference in the body language between those coming first and those who have come second. Do you think the sports person that has just come second is thinking ‘it’s taking part that counts’

I remember being at a tennis tournament for under 8’s when a young lad came bounding up to his father that I was chatting to. ‘Dad, Dad’ said the excited young lad ‘I’ve come runner up’. His dad replied ‘No such thing as runners up lad, there’s winners and losers’. Rather harsh you might think but his dad was a keen sportsman and he knew the difference between first place and second place and he was toughening up his young son to make him go that extra mile.

Do you know that at the 2004 Athens Olympics the difference between 5 gold and 5 silver medals was 0.545 seconds? The difference in the 800 metres where Kelly Holmes won the gold medal was 0.05 seconds between her and the athlete who won the silver medal. Who can forget the look on her face when she crossed the finishing line and the sudden realisation that she had at last won gold.

So do all the hours of training and hardship and maybe even some failures along the way seem worth it when success finally comes? You bet they do.

These principles can be applied to anything we do in life but for the moment let’s just celebrate an event that showed sport at its best.

I’m off to my Italian lesson tonight where the only other pupil is a Manchester City supporter but my Italian tutor’s husband is a life long United supporter. I should learn some very interesting phrases in Italian tonight…!

Another week – and more depressing headlines!

‘Costing more to fill up the car than to do the weekly shop’

‘Half of over-50s will have to work beyond state pension age’

‘UK in double dip recession’

- just a few of the headlines we are seeing.

So what do you do about it? Well some people will sit back and grumble and moan and blame everyone and everything. So how does that help?

Others will evaluate their circumstances and work out if there is anything they can do to make the situation better. Those are the people I would like to talk with.

Think of your circle of friends. Do you know anyone who has been made redundant? Maybe you have been made redundant? Years ago it was rare to know anyone in that situation, now it is rare if you don’t know anyone suffering from redundancy. Look at the different ways in which those people have reacted to the situation. Some will seize on it as an opportunity to start something new. Others will join the ‘Why does it always happen to me! ‘club. The glass half full or the glass half empty syndrome. I want to talk with the glass half full people.

For years the financial gurus have bee telling us that to rely on one source of income is not the best way to take control of your future. Some go further and say you are setting yourself up for failure if you rely solely on one income stream.

So do you have a plan B in place should anything happen with your current
employment? If you have more than one income stream you are shielded from the effect any loss of your main earnings might have.

One of the best ways of getting a 2nd income is through Network Marketing. Not only is the investment small but you will have the strength of a company behind you, systems already in place and, in a good network marketing company, plenty of training and support. You are able to work it part time alongside what you are currently doing.

There are many Network Marketing companies out there. Do your research before choosing which one is right for you. I am obviously biased and think that the one I work with is the best!!

If after doing your research you agree with me and you are a ‘glass half full’ person then give me a call. I would love to talk with you. I have a fantastic motivated team just waiting to welcome you aboard!

Before I had anything to do with utilities I had 2 other main careers. I was a Phys Ed teacher for many years before moving into fashion retail, eventually owning 5 retail outlets.

Whenever anyone asked what I did, either of those two professions would evoke a very positive response.

Now I am in the world of utilities – what a difference! The reaction varies from total indifference to open hostility. ‘Oh you are not one of those awful people who phone just when we’re sitting down to tea’ is a typical response – and no I’m not!

I was at a networking event where I was chatting with a fellow networker and showing genuine interest in what she was doing. She gave me her business card and I gave her mine in return. She looked at it and immediately handed it back to me with a less than complimentary remark about the utility industry in general. Apart from this being the height of rudeness, she could just have thrown it away when she got back to the office, why does the word ‘utilities’ provoke such reactions?

I meet girls I used to teach whose idea of hell was running up and down a hockey pitch in their lessons with me, but they still greet me with a smile and friendship. They knew I really had their best interests at heart! They judge me as a person.

When I had my fashion shops I had no problem selling garments for several hundred pounds confident in the knowledge I was giving value for money and providing service. Many of my customers became my friends.

Today I can show people I am saving them several hundred pounds on their utilities, and assure them they will receive personal service from me and it can still be viewed with suspicion.

Having said all that, I have many lovely customers in my ‘utility world’ who really appreciate the personal service and have also become friends.

So please everyone out there, despite the ‘blanket’ poor image people may have about utility companies, there are some of us who genuinely want to help give you the best deal possible along with personal service.

If you’re one of them, take a look at this page!

Hardly a day goes by at the moment without some newspaper headline or item on the news, pointing out the increase in the cost of living. It makes depressing reading and viewing. Costs are rising but incomes are not rising at the same rate – if at all! The result is less disposable income or worse still, too much month at the end of the money!

Do you grin and bear it and think ‘that’s how it is’ or do you do something about it? Why is it that in times of recession some people and some businesses flourish while others go under. Well it’s how you react to a situation that makes a difference.

To deal with rising costs you need a rising income. If you are in a job with a fixed wage or salary this is not always possible. What is possible, however, is the ability to Earn a Second Income. Not got time you may think! We all have 24 hours in the day. How many hours do you spend watching television, lingering over that cup of coffee, could you get up an hour earlier every day? With just a few hours every week it is possible to earn a 2nd income. It may be that you could utilise your hobby, something that you are good at, turning it into something that produces income for you. Maybe you can sell unwanted items on EBay or even develop that into a business. All that , however, is trading time for money.

The best way is to use those extra hours to create a residual income, an income that pays you every month for a job done once. This could be in the form of monthly rents from property investment but that pre – supposes that you had the capital to invest in the first place.

Thousands of people are already using those extra hours to build up residual income with a network marketing company. This way you have the strength of a company behind you with all the systems already in place. All you have to do is to use those extra hours consistently every week to grow a 2nd income.

Having a 2nd income could mean that it pays the mortgage every month, pays your children’s school fees or enables you to go on holiday. Having a 2nd income can eliminate that stress of meeting those ever increasing bills with the rising cost of living. Better still, over time and with consistent effort, utilising those few extra hours every week to create a residual income can see your disposable income grow.

More disposable income – better life style!

Ladies – this is of course something we have always known but at last we can prove to any sceptical male: when we say we are actually saving them money by shopping , we can prove it with figures in black and white!

Utility Warehouse Cashback Card

The Utility Warehouse CashBack card gives you money off your monthly utility bill by just doing your normal shopping.

Here’s a typical scenario. You do food shopping every month. You fill up your car with petrol or diesel and that can be frightening these days can’t it?. Do you ever have to pay parking fees? Three hours in Manchester the other day cost me over £7. You buy your normal toiletries and any health and beauty products. May be some DIY equipment is necessary. What about some toys or electronic games for the children? Do you ever have a pizza delivered or go out to Pizza Express. Any new mums out there ever have to buy nappies? Anyone ever buy any sports equipment? What about when you have a weekend away and stay in a nice hotel?

Save Money with the Utility Warehouse Cashback Card

And – I’ve saved the best till last. What about when you go out and buy that new dress or shoes or handbag- or may be all of them! We are saving money!!

By using the Utility Warehouse CashBack card when doing your normal monthly shopping you will get discounts off your monthly utility bill. Imagine receiving your utility bill and seeing, for example, £20 or £30 taken off the total bill.

QED. You have proved you have saved money by shopping!

They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. This is an old Chinese proverb but it is as true today as it was then.

Sometimes change is thrust upon us and that is outside our control but the real change that makes a difference, is the change that YOU decide to make, the change over which YOU have control.

Change can seem a massive challenge and can take you out of your comfort zone. This can be really scary and that is why it just doesn’t happen with a lot of people. Any change you make – however small – can have an amazing effect on your life. Your self esteem grows, your confidence soars and what happens when you gain in confidence? You try more new things and you venture even more outside your comfort zone.

Think back to when you were a child:

We all dreamed of being whatever we wanted to be.
An astronaut; a famous dancer; to climb Mount Everest; becoming Prime Minister.

The thought never entered our heads that we couldn’t do any of these things –
but somewhere along the way, as we grew up, we just let life and living steal our dreams.
Maybe you have fulfilled all those dreams and that is great but I am sure there’s always room for more!

So how about 2012 being the year that puts you back in control of your future, the year when you start to believe in your dreams again.

What about going on a journey over the next few months by starting to make some small changes in your life?

You will have to Dare2Change some things, you will have to step outside that comfort zone and you will have to take action! If your dream is big enough and you are prepared to focus and set your goals then you can start to make those dreams come true.

Yesterday I was at a training event with the company I work with. It’s a training that all new distributors with this company have to attend. That is absolutely right that this should be. I would have no confidence in a company that let you loose into the public domain without training. Can you imagine someone wanting to become a hairdresser and being allowed to cut your hair without undergoing training first? I used to be a teacher but before I could be employed by a school I had to attend Teacher’s Training College for 3 years and pass exams, both practical and written.

One of the things that really struck me on this training yesterday was the diversity of backgrounds that were there. These were all people who had seen this as a business opportunity they could work from home and earn a second income without it impacting on what they were currently doing.

I made a note of all the backgrounds of the people who were attending that training and the first thing that struck me was just how many occupations, trades and professions felt the need to earn a second income. Among the backgrounds represented were:- police, driving instructor, hairdresser, recruitment, IFA, mortgage advisor, teacher, civil servant, photographer, cabin crew, accountant, electrician, painter and decorator and university students. This is just a snapshot of what is happening all over the country. This was one small training venue in the North West and the company I work with has these training going on every month all over the United Kingdom.

This would indicate to me several things:

• There are so many people out there that are in need of a second income.
• Working from home is the ideal scenario for someone who wants to fit in something alongside their current occupation because it can be fitted into those spare hours either during the day or in the evening.
• It would indicate that people from every background can do this business.
• Looking at the professions that were attending this training it would indicate that these people would not take on a business opportunity that they had not researched thoroughly and that they had felt that it was a credible business opportunity

Are YOU looking for a business opportunity that you can work from home to give you a second income? Are you from any of the backgrounds that attended that training and feel the need for a second income.

OR – here’s just a personal challenge for a bit of fun:

I wonder if YOU will be the first person from your occupation to join this company. I can’t think of any background that we haven’t got represented but I’d love to meet you and welcome you to my team if you think you have a really unique occupation.

How would you like to work from home on a business that, over time and with persistent effort, could provide you with a residual/passive income that could give you the life style you have always dreamed of?

‘Sounds too good to be true’ I hear you say, closely followed by ‘If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.’ I wonder how many genuine amazing opportunities have been ignored or dismissed because of that view. It is always right to do due diligence when looking at any business. Always research the company, its background, its finances, its management team, how long has it been around and whether it is showing growth. Once you have done that and you are satisfied that it meets with all the criteria necessary to be a genuine business opportunity, don’t close your mind to it because ‘it sounds too good to be true’.

The ones to walk away from are those that promise you riches overnight with no effort!

Once you have researched the business opportunity the missing ingredient that will determine whether it will be a success is YOU. As with anything in life, what you put into it is what you will get out of it. The business I am involved with meets all the criteria that people often say ‘it sounds too good to be true’ but it still requires hard work and time to succeed.

So don’t dismiss out of hand some business idea that sounds too good to be true. If that opportunity comes knocking on your door, don’t be afraid to open it!

Is your current income enough for your needs? Or for the lifestyle you desire?

In this current economic climate more and more people are finding the need to have a second income. There are many openings out there. The 64 thousand dollar question – which one is the right one for you?

You should sit down and make a check list. What are you good at, what are your interests, what investment can you give – both time and financial, what is your personality? I would suggest that Earning a Second Income should be something you enjoy doing as it should not become an extra hassle in your life.

The one that I found worked for me was network marketing. The only drawback I have found to NWM is the negative perception some people have of it. I still occasionally get the comment ‘Oh that’s a pyramid scheme’ There was a negative perception of Franchising when it was first introduced, in fact, it was nearly declared illegal. NWM and Franchising have come a long way since those days. Donald Trump stated that if he had to start all over again from nothing, he would find a good network marketing company and run with it. Many major well known corporations have now adopted the strategies of NWM.

So could NWM be the way forward for you to earn that second income?

Let’s take a look at the benefits.
• A low initial investment
• Systems are all in place
• Training provided
• Support given
• Can be worked from home
• Power of leverage
• Residual income
• Huge potential

So if you decide that NWM may be the way forward for you to earn a second income how do you decide which company would be the one?

• Research the company thoroughly
• Look at its financial record
• Has the company got a strong management team?
• Where is the company based?
• Is there free training provided?
• What is the company’s compensation plan?
• Is there true residual /passive income?
• Has the company got products or services that are already on peoples’ shopping list?
• Are its products or services priced at or below market levels?

These were all points I took into consideration when I made my choice of which NWM company to join. I found Telecom Plus/Utility Warehouse ticked all the boxes for me. The biggest tick in the box was that the company provides services that everyone needs and everyone uses - phones, broadband, gas and electricity, and offering them at best value prices. I wasn’t going to have sell a product to anyone that they did not need or want.

So if you are looking for a second income idea, one that you can work from home, perhaps NWM may be something you might consider. Find out more here www.mynewbusinessopportunity.co.uk

Many police have 2nd jobs. My highly motivated team is looking for both serving policemen and ex police personnel to join them – is it YOU?

Headlines in the Times today report that many police officers have second jobs because they need a second income.

Concerns have been raised about ‘conflict of interest ‘with certain types of jobs and whether allowing police officers to have a second job will create a part time police force. The Police Federation has defended the practice claiming many police officers need a second income to make ends meet amid the cuts and pay freezes.

Telecom Plus/Utility Warehouse has long been one of the second income opportunities that various Chief Constables have allowed. The beauty about Telecom Plus is that it is not a job. It is a business opportunity that can be worked from home in hours to suit. There are therefore no concerns over tiredness and there is certainly no conflict of interest.

It is really interesting that police officers who join Telecom Plus/Utility Warehouse are among some of the most successful distributors. They already have all the qualities needed to succeed with the company.

They are disciplined
They love the camaraderie that comes from being part of a highly motivated team
They recognise the importance of training
They have good communication skills
They have commitment to a job well done and appreciate rewards and recognition when achieving this
They thrive in the company of positive like minded people
They like the idea that they are part of a professional organisation.
They like the idea that they are part of a winning team

With Utility Warehouse/Telecom Plus the rewards and recognition for achievement are fantastic. You are openly appreciated and respected for success. You receive ongoing training and support and the business is structured in such a way that success is dependent on team effort.

If you would like to know more about a business opportunity you could work from home in your off duty hours, a business that allows you to Earn a Second Income by using all the skills and characteristics that attracted you to the police force, then please get in touch .

YOU might just be one of the people we are looking for. Sign up today at http://www.mynewbusinessopportunity.co.uk
